Different options for fixing your damaged car bumper

There are different ways you can do carbumper repair. Deciding the best approach should be your first step in fixing your bumper. Dented, cracked, scratched and punctured bumper can be unsightly and unsafe. These are ugly things that happen to your bumper. When your bumper gets damaged, here are your options.

Repair the scratch

Car scratches happen but shallow scratches that don’t go the way through the car paint are easy to fix with buffing. This applies to shallow scratches too and not just the bumper covers. Any detailing centre or auto body shop can buff out bumper scratches for you. This works well and the cost can range from fifty dollars to two hundred dollars. You can also do it yourself using an electric car polisher along with a fine grade of auto polishing compound.

Replace the bumper cover

You can decide to replace the bumper cover rather than do mobile car bumper repair. If you’ve got a puncture or crack in your bumper that is a few inches long then you’ll need to replace it. The damaged cover comes off by releasing the hidden clips and fasteners around the fenders and all the neighbouring parts. After removing the cover, snap on a new cover.

Patch the bumper cover

Bumper covers are typically made of semi-flexible plastic but you can still paint and buff dings and dents the same way you do with other steel parts. Patching your bumper can save you a lot of money. There are two things to keep in mind when you decide to patch your bumper.

First, you shouldn’t damage the underlying metal bumper when doing car bumper repair. If the damage is small, patching with conventional auto-body compounds will do fine. Second, the bumper cover should be stabilized before being patched and made to look newer.
